The natural option for GROWING UP GREEN
Soapnuts?  What are Soapnuts?  Soapnuts are a 100% natural Laundry detergent.  They are a dried fruit shell from the Sapindus mukorossi tree.  This little fruit contains saponin that is a natural soap.  The saponin is released when it is submerged in water and agitated.  So toss them in your washer and wash away!   They leave very little reside so they are great for your cloth diapers.

Cloth Diaper laundering instructions
From start to finish here is how to wash your cloth diapers with our Nifty Soap Nuts

  1. Flush solids… obviously.
  2. Do a cold prewash on your *diapers with 1/2 c baking soda (I do not recommend washing soda it is harder on natural fibers)   -I also recommend 3-5 drops of Tea Tree oil as a disinfectant!
  3. When the prewash is finished add your Nifty Soap Nuts bag in and set your washer to a Hot/Cold cycle
  4. Wash diapers.
  5. Set aside the bag of soapnuts to dry.
  6. Hang your diapers out to dry, in the sun preferably!  OR toss them in the dryer.
  7. If you line dry your diapers you can toss them in the drier for 5-10 min when you bring them in to soften them up.
Soapnuts leave very little reside and this will help with detergent buildups.  You should still strip your diapers every month though.  Also note that soapnuts do not make lots of suds, so don’t expect it.  Suds don’t make things clean, in fact in most detergents there is an additive that is just there to make suds so people feel like it is cleaning better.
